Running a VPS with very little RAM? Here are recommend packages to use...

1. Distro

Choose Slackware !

2. SSH

Replace OpenSSH with Dropbear. Refer to this article for more info.

3. POP / IMAP

(The following are more for security than lower memory consumption)

4. sshdfilter

ssh brute force attack blocker

5. xinetd

An alternative inetd implementation, can be downloaded here. A good article on xinetd.
